About Us Telluride Council for the Arts and Humanities TCAH is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization dedicated to championing the arts in Telluride and building connections within Telluride’s visual and performing arts community and the general public. We believe that a creative cultural environment is essential to Telluride’s well-being, and we focus to promote programs that integrate the arts into all aspects of Telluride living. We are proud to produce Stronghouse Studios, the Telluride Art Walk and the Small Grant and Artists Fellowships. TCAH provides gallery space for exhibitions, music, poetry readings and social events for many artists and organizations. We display national, regional and local artists in solo shows, group exhibits and installations featuring a new exhibit each month from February through December, our on-seasons. TCAH was established in 1971, and formally organized with tax-exempt status in 1976. We are a non-profit, member supported organization dedicated to encouraging and preserving art in our community.
Our mission TCAH is a community-based arts organization that exists to encourage creativity by developing a flourishing cultural environment in Telluride and the region. We also focus on outreach, artistic education and making it affordable for families to participate in cultural experiences.
Our vision TCAH strives to increase awareness of the arts and humanities by: *serving as an arts and humanities communication network; *providing an arts facility for the community and artists; *presenting and sponsoring quality art exhibits; *organizing arts festivals; *generating active community participation; and *coordinating with other arts and humanities organizations for a stronger community.
Hours and Location TCAH is open Monday through Friday by appointment only. Stronghouse is open every Thursday from 12-6, by appointment, and whenever the "Open Gallery" sign is present. Please note Stronghouse will be closed April 15-May 15 during off-season.
Summer hours [tbd]: *Tuesday through Friday, 12-5 pm *Saturday, 12-4 pm *First Thursdays until 8 pm *2008 Holiday closings include MLK Jr. Day, July 4th and Thanksgiving Day. TCAH and Stronghouse are also closed annually from April 14-May 9 (off-season) and the weeks of Christmas and New Years' (Dec 22-Jan 2).
We are located at 283 South Fir Street, Town of Telluride, in the Stronghouse Studios building. Google map>>
The building is a Telluride Historical Structure, dating from 1892, with the original stone and masonry. It was previously used as, among other things, the local newspaper offices and a French restaurant. For more information on the historical nature of the building, contact the Town of Telluride's Historic and Architectural Survey.
